Joseph Noiret was born 1927 in Brussels.
He wrote poems already in a young age and after from 1944 to 1949 he studied literature and philosophy in Brussels.
In 1947 he met Christian Dotremont with whom he founded Le Revolutionary Surrealist Group and a year later he co-founded the CoBrA movement.
He wrote several poems for the CoBrA magazine and 1953 he founded the cult magazine Phantomas.
Later from 1980 to 1992 he headed the National School of Visual Arts of La Cambre (Brussels).
In 2004 he published a history of Cobra: Cobra Chrono.
Joseph Noiret died in 2012 as the last of the six founders of the CoBrA movement.
